Paper Wonderland

I love books. *sigh* I mean, really. I love the way they feel, the way they smell, the way they look. Most of all, of course, I love the stories they tell. I learned how to read at three years old and haven't stopped since! It could be part of my OCD, but if I start a book I must finish it, no matter how boring or badly written I may find it. I actually feel slightly ill when I consider flipping to the back to see how a book ends so I can return it without reading the rest of it. I did try it once in high school, but immediately felt such crushing remorse that I wound up reading the rest of it anyway. That said, there are very few books that I have disliked enough to consider flipping to the end; one was a very boring story about an unlucky war hero who murdered a bunch of civilians and then tried to cover his butt in court 20 years later, one was "100 Years of Solitude" (though I might try that one again sometime...I was in high school when I tried it and it may have been meant for older people), and one was a Science Fiction book about a war hero who was pretty much only alive through dumb luck and putting himself as far away from danger as possible. I know there have been a couple others, but the names escape me for the moment.

Recently, I did start keeping a journal of book reviews; as soon as I finish a book, I write the title and author on a page followed by what I thought of the book, and then I pass the review on to my boyfriend so he can see if he wants to read the book or not. He's a fairly slow reader, you see, and where it can take months and months for him to finish a novel I can devour the same book in about two weeks, depending on how interesting I find the material. On the other hand, he's a lightning-fast expert gamer, and the same game that took me a year to get through he'll get from start to finish in a couple days. So, he plays through the games first, I read the books first, and we each recommend the best to the other. It's a neat system.

Speaking of which, I'm going to get a little gaming in before I pass out for the evening. More on Thursday!
